Thema van de BU-set van 2013 is "De Harp".
Central Bank of Ireland schreef:

The theme for the Annual Mint set for 2013 will be the harp. This theme will be the harp’s association with Ireland, as an instrument important in music, associated legends and as our national symbol. The focus will not be solely on the harp of the Percy Metcalfe design, but also on other harps over the ages, one example being the Brian Boru harp in Trinity College Dublin which was the original basis of the Percy Metcalfe design. This theme is consistent with the Animals of Irish coinage series honouring the original designs of Percy Metcalfe and would be a final tie-up of the theme that we have been using for the past three years.

news.coinupdate.com schreef:

The Central Bank of Ireland will launch (10th April) a new coin which honors one of the country’s most creative and influential writers. The new silver crown is issued as part of the EUROPA Silver Star initiative – and this year’s topic for the program is dedicated to featuring well-known artists in several fields. Ireland’s contribution to this series is that of James Joyce (1882 – 1941) considered to be one of the most influential writers in the modernist avant-garde genre of the early 20th century. Joyce is best known for his novel Ulysses published in 1922 which was a landmark work in which the episodes of Homer's Odyssey are paralleled in an array of contrasting literary styles. Other major works are the short-story collection Dubliners published in 1914.

Born in Dublin, James Joyce was the eldest of ten surviving children. He excelled as a student at the Jesuit schools Clongowes and Belvedere, progressing to University College Dublin. In his early twenties he emigrated permanently to continental Europe, making his home during some periods in Trieste, Paris and eventually settling permanently in Zurich. Though most of his adult life was spent abroad, Joyce's fictional universe did not extend far beyond Dublin and was influenced greatly by characters who closely resembled family members, enemies and friends from his time there. In 1998, the Modern Library – the American publisher of Joyce's works ranked Ulysses at Number 1, A Portrait of the Artist as a Young Man at Number 3, and Finnegans Wake at number 77 on their list of the 100 best English-language novels of the 20th century. Joyce was also named one of the 100 Most Important People of the 20th century by TIME magazine in 1999. Joyce was last seen on Irish currency when he was portrayed on the £10 banknote issued in 1993.

James Joyce Coin
Denomination: 10 €URO
Metal: .925 fine silver
Weight: 28.2 grams
Diameter: 38.6 mm.
Quality: Proof
Mintage: 10,000 pieces

Struck for the Central Bank of Ireland at the Mayer’s Mint, Germany, the coin’s obverse is designed by Mary Gregoriy, who previously designed a silver crown issued in 2007 by the Central Bank featuring Celtic culture. The design highlights one of Joyce’s most familiar traits of his appearance - that of his round wire-framed spectacles, with a modern stylised image of Joyce himself. Of particular appeal is the part of the design which sees the many titles authored by Joyce pouring from the top of his head in hand written script. The EUROPA star is seen just to the right of Joyce’s portrait with the coin’s denomination of “10 EURO” positioned just under the star. The reverse features the Irish national symbol, that of the harp which is centered in the coin along with the year of issue and the text “EIRE” on either side.

Coin Update will have further coverage of the official launch of the new James Joyce Coin in Dublin, 10th April 2013.
